This piece right here was take when I went to the museum. I do not know if you can notice the lower case of the N. It is very small at the bottom of the photo.

living Among Type #4

This photo has more than one letter actually. I can see the main one which is the P. and on the left top of it you can notice the A
In the fish photo I found the lower case G. It is in the dark-blue on the fish.

I took this photo for the oval O

Here I can see the capital D. I do not think it is a good picture, so please give me your advice guys.

Assignment#1 ( Type is showing its elements of design)

These photos are the second drafts. After the first roughs, I could distinguish between each principle of design and another. The ability of telling the differences between each principle and another increased my understanding to the concept of type as an object.
The two squares on the left hand side present sizes and the next two present shape.

In the second photo, the lines are shown on the left, and the directions on the right side.

The last photo shows the color on the left and the texture on the right. Please a small comment from you can help me improve my work.

Assignment#1 ( Type is showing its elements of design)

Assignment one is an introduction to the world of typography. It is the begining step to look at type as an object not as letter. In these roughs, I use part of the letter associated with the principles and the elements of design to create the artistic pieces below. Please check them out and feel free to leave a small comment.
The right two boxes are lines and the ones on the left are textures.
In here, the first two on the left are directions and the others are lines.
This photo presents size on the top left corner, and texture on the top right. For the two boxes underneath, the left box shows sort of shape and the right one could be shape or direction.

Living Among Type! #3

The first photo here shows the capital L on the top.

These photos were taken when I went to the Natural History Museum. At that time I took photos of natural rocks. In this photo, I found the letter X. The letter is located on the right side of the picture.

This photo was taken at the aquarium in Long-Beach. I noticed the capital C in here. If we look ate the middle of the fish, we will see the white curve that shapes the the out-line of the C.

In the picture above I recognized the capital N on the right hand side.
In this picture this two pieces of this rock combined to create the capital T in a nice way.

Living Among Type! #2

I do not know if any one can see the capital A. it is on the left of the traffic light. I like this so much because of its value. Maybe the shadow is giving it this feeling. In addition to that, the steel material provides it with sharp outlines.
This is a banana tree next to my house. The M letter is shown by its leaves. I think some body has realized that I am posting a lot leaves and nature elements. In fact, I find it more interesting to me because they are not created by a "human being".
here is the C. I did not pay attention the the position of this photo when I took it. now I am noticing the combination between the background and the letter itself. The outline shape of the letter is sort of different also. it has some curves and some cut edges.
This piece is the shadow of my fence. I like how the shadow gives this effect on the ground. The letter A here is kind of squeezed between two elements. Personally, it depends on how we look at it. Some people will see it sitting between other letters. In addition to the position of this letter, I can see a message coming through it. Greatness is the clear message. Moreover the contrast between the negative and the positive space is very nice. If the background color was black, the message would be totally different.
This picture seems none-sense for a normal person, but it says so much to an artist. top of the trash represent the letter D. I took this photo from this certain spot intentionally. The shape of the D could look dull if I took it directly from the front. Using this perspective makes me see the letter as a three dimensional object.
Here is another C that I took from a seat. It has the same idea of the the letter D. The letter C in here shows a clear three dimensional view. Again the material plays a big role in here. Although the seat is made of reinforced plastic, it looks like a white rock if we changed the background. For example, we could post it on a white wall and the material will be shown differently.
