Assignment#1 ( Type is showing its elements of design)

These photos are the second drafts. After the first roughs, I could distinguish between each principle of design and another. The ability of telling the differences between each principle and another increased my understanding to the concept of type as an object.
The two squares on the left hand side present sizes and the next two present shape.

In the second photo, the lines are shown on the left, and the directions on the right side.

The last photo shows the color on the left and the texture on the right. Please a small comment from you can help me improve my work.

  1. I love your draft for size! It's such a minimalistic design. For your texture (the top one), I think the empty spaces in between the Ms are too wide...but then again, it still somehow works...everything else is awesome in my opinion.

  3. interesting that people wanted to a narrative to your pieces. You worked really hard to understand the assignment. Congratulations!
Designs 1 shape – great use of the negative space to put emphasis of the black area in the 2nd one. 1. Use of the shape as direction is great and the shape looks like it is being wrapped by a line, by pushing in from the bottom the feel is pushing up –
Design 2 – size – in relationship to the frame, Good shift in size. That gives us 2 different dialogues
Design 3 – Direction - excellent – dynamic and expressive! Bold and thick.
Design 4 – line great variety of line thickness and thinness. Once you came up with the line being a mixture of cut lines – I think the other students caught onto the idea and reused it for themselves. the change in movement between the 2 lines
Design 5 – texture with movement and good use of repetition. I like the idea that you were trying to include movement within the design. A sense of floating
Design 6 – excellent overlapping and use of movement and direction to get you through the piece. The value push from light to dark *****
